The focus of this MA will be on the thematic: you will explore the importance of phenomena like migration, urbanization, isolation, connectivity, the human and physical elements, the arts, and more. There will be an emphasis on the ever-changing boundaries between the local, the regional, and the global. For instance, while in the sixteenth century, the Spanish soldier Antonio V谩zquez described the Netherlands as a land where produce had "neither juice nor taste," today, Italy 鈥� a land bathed in the Mediterranean sun 鈥� imports nearly 50,000 tonnes of fresh tomatoes from the same Netherlands. These developments blur the traditionally-accepted 鈥� and expected 鈥� lines of history, geography, and culture. Furthermore, you will engage in key debates, such as the idea of a 'clash of civilizations,' by placing them in the context of cultural engagements, which is the only way Jewish-Christian-Muslim (and other) human encounters can be properly understood.

The Course shall be open to applicants who are in possession of the Postgraduate Diploma in Mediterranean Studies.

The taught Master of Arts in Mediterranean Studies is designed for you if you have a passion for challenging and enriching learning experiences. This program will prepare you for careers in European Union affairs, broadcasting, journalism, publishing, consultancy, foreign affairs, marketing, political careers, education, museums and galleries, as well as businesses, NGOs, and enterprises with a Mediterranean focus. These organizations seek individuals like you, capable of devising strategies for development and action in the Mediterranean region and beyond. Upon graduating with an MA in Mediterranean Studies, you will be well-positioned to inform policies on Euro-Med relations, long-term processes and transformations in the region, the relationship between humans and their environment, Mediterranean demographics, conflict, and cooperation. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to pursue doctoral study after earning your Master of Arts.
